well the unit is 48 inches and will definately fit. but i need to mount it and i would imagine attaching the lights inside the plastic case would create immense heat that why i want to make it retro...

i recommend going with a 20g long tank for a sump fuge.. unless you are doing the fuge separate. if not a 10g is to small to work with IME
