You may run carbon for a week, changing it every 2 days, small portions. The one from Wal-Mart will work for emergency too.
More water change, wet skimming, and - if you have it - the diatom filter. Better to remove as much as possible of the rotten particles.
If xenia not just melts (closes and becomes blob-like), but will have a separate layer over, black powder-like or slime - gently siphon it out, the alive part should recover.
My experience is only with white xenia, sorry.
