cycling tank

I have had LR in my tank for about 1 week now and my ammonia level has risen to 8.0 ppm after an addition of LR rubble to the back chamber of my tank. Should I do a water change? Is this normal or am I just over worried?

it's expected during your tank cycle. i'd let it run a few more weeks before your first water change.

everything will balance out to near perfect when the tank is done cycling. just try to not add anything else untill the ammonia is at 0. if you do it could prolong the cycle.
