OK guys, I am off to the LFS tomorrow to pick up a fish and to enhance my clean-up crew (all going in after QT of course).

I feel I need to boost the clean-up crew. I am having a few difficulties with algea. We all came to the conclusion on here that a blue cheek or white diamond goby is the fellow for my substrate. My mrs however has seen a red knobbed star fish. Everytime I have seen one its always stuck to the side of a tank, are these guys useful for cleaning the algea off glass? Has anyone got one or have experience of them?

The red knobbed starfish is not generally reef safe as it will eat corals as it gets older and larger.

I would go with snails as in my opinion they are the single best algae eaters available. Some mexican turbo and margarita snails will serve you well.

For the sandbed I would get some Cerith and Nassarius snails. You might even get a fighting conch which do very well as cleaners.

Skip the snails and get yourself the goby or a sea hair
