wow, after 9 months of reefkeeping and the nitrates never dropping below 20 (seemingly no matter how often I did water changes) - finally!
Just tested Nitrates *before* the water change this morning, and I had to do the test again to make sure I didn't screw up! Both times I get a reading of ZERO... Phosphate is also at zero - so I guess the DIY reactor I just built will just have to have carbon in it. I can only guess that this must be due to one or both of the following: 1. Chaeto in my refugium is taking off and using all the nitrates 2. Stopped using a canister filter (I have about 50 lbs of live rock in a 45 gallon + 20g sump). Sorry to ramble on, I'm just so excited right now! Josh |

Congrats..Cheato works well. if your phosphates are not zero use the DIY for phosban.

The canister filter was probably a nitrate breeding ground

Nice job. It's a great feeling to conquer water parameters.
