11 LPM too much for a 3" skimmer riser?
I'm pulling 10-12 LPM with a meshmod OR2700. Do I need to go with a 4" riser?
Skimmer body is 6"x 18" |

Hey foshizzle, sorry to change the subject but I wanted to ask you if your meshmod is heating up the tank. I meshmoded an OR3700 and it is heating water up to 110 F. It was only 5 gallons of water but im still afraid to run the pump this way as it may just burn up. If its not too much trouble, i would like to see how u made your mesh impellor cos Im pulling 10-12 LPM also and thats with an OR3700. You would think I should be able to pull more than an OR2700. I was only abe to fit 2 layers of mvagi mesh. WHat is the diameter of your venturi hole? Thanks for yor time.

Malifuous,
I meshmoded a serda 5000 & it heated my water. I found that I didn't trim the outside edge of the mesh enough & if rubed the housing, which made the pump work harder, which made heat. Dave |

You should be pulling more than 12LPM but on the other hand it could be a venturi problem. My venturi fits 3/8 OD line. I only used 2 layers of mesh also. I only got an extra 1LPM with 3 layers. anyone got input on my intitial question... Last edited by foshizzle; 01/05/2007 at 06:21 PM. |

The pump doesnt start on its own. I really need to smack it hard or remove it from water and let it get spinning then submerge it. There is no mesh that i can see touching the housing.
If you can find out the height of the riser for any other factory made skimmer that pulls 11-12 lpm that may answer your question. |

I was refering to riser diameter. The deltec apf200 pulls about the same and I believe it has a 3" riser. Mine is about 6 1/2" tall
I meant to say 1/4 on the venturi line btw |

You're fine with that diameter riser- You guys who are having heat problems with your pumps need to do some mesh trimming. You shouldn't have any rubbing anywhere....
