Talking Montipora peltiformis

Me and a good friend just got a nice yellow with blue polyps montipora peltiformis. Like this one from the reefermadness link.

http://www.reefermadness.us/RMD12197267.htm

We got ours from a local fish store though.
I dont know much about this kind of montipora any info would be great. Like what kind of flow high light or low light. That kind of stuff or a link to a good site with the info would be great.

Also can i see some pics of any of yours?
I thought this type would grow link a denae but i saw a pic of one that was growing like a monti cap. Will the peltiformis grow like a monti cap?

Thanks.

Really nice piece.....I have a piece of this Monti also..
I got mine from Insane Corals..here is a pic from their site as I have a crappy camera and can't get a good pic of mine.

This is an encrusting monti. Mine seems to love light as its about 10 inches down from 400W 10K MH. Mine is growing like mad and it turned completely yellow with the blue polyps....its brown in a few spots where it is shaded.

I picked up literally a dozen frags of this nice yellowish base with bright blue polyps didn't look like the RM one, then again I didn't photoshop it to "make it look like it's true color" either. Gave a bunch of the frags out at a swap event, then every one of mine for whatever reason bleached out, and they were on the bottom of an 18" tall tank and never knew why.

Mine browned out when I first got it but it regained the nice yellow base
as I moved it up. Seems to like a lot of light once its acclimated.
I had it directly under 250w de 20k bulb.

Mine is the same color as the RM one and it came from a bad pet store and had normal flat worms all over it me and my friend had to dip them for a long time to kill them all. The polyps were out 5 minutes later even after i took my dremel diamond cutting wheel to it and cut it in half for us to both have a half. I have it on a magnet frag plug i made at the top of my tank under my 20k lights. Im going to move it closer to my T5s though. Ill take a pic soon maybe tomorrow its just my pics all come out blue since i run 20k hqis and 3 420nm and 450 nm T5s i only have one white bulb and its a 11k.

Oh i did see that it loved my tunze to blast it hard the polyps were out so far and it looked great but i have moved the tunzes in my tank since then so i could get better flow on a cap that i have. I may have to move the monti to a better place to get more flow now. Thats why i think ill move it closer to my T5s tomorrow. Ill let you all know. Are there any other good colors out there maybe a green?

The first piece I had seemed to be thick plating as well, though my new one (which appears to be the same coral as far as I can tell) seems to be encrusting. I LOVE the neon green glowing edge. These pics are pretty close to life. Under 250w EVC 14K HQI:

Do you think that water flow will change the growth pattern like a cap? The pic on the other link looks like a saw blade, realy cool.

Yeah i think it is from the flow and with mine on the glass with a tunze on it i think i can get a growth like that one has.

Flow, mounting, etc can all make a huge difference on morphology.

That said, IMO definitive ID on some of the more encrusting-type Montipora is a crapshoot IMO. I'd think that the more thin-plating type is a different species ... but that's my opinion.

I'm trying to get a picture of it but its proving to be very difficult. I keep getting a picture of just a white coral.

The camera I have sucks large you know what. I can't focus close on anything an its always blurry or to much glare.

But the corals is cream and yellow in color on the base and the polyps are neon blue/purple.

Wish I had a better pic.

It looks identical to the first picture posted.
