what will fit under your stand? thats usually the limit people set. On my 450 gallon tank I have a 230 gallon ref/sump.
Everyone you meet, knows something you don't.

The bigger the better. On my 400gals I have a 55gal fuge and a 110gal fuge/sump.
90gal display
40gal propagation/refugium tank
30gal sump

the bigger the better is probably the best thing to take into consideration.

but any size
even 10gal fuge filled w/ chaeto/pods is going to benefit to some degree.

dont know that there is any 'RIGHT' size fuge
but have read think it was calfo who said minimum 25% of tank volume/size... for best benefit that is.

i have 125display w/ 50 gal dedicated display fuge then 35gal sump/fuge.

have seen where someone had 60gal reef
w/ 100gal fuge... so in that case the fuge is almost double the size of the tank - w/ all the benefits of added nutrient removal, increased water volume - which is going to incr overall stability of the system ETC ETC ETC

good luck!
