which is better and why regardless of cost in sump or external return pumps ?

the advantage to external pumps is LESS heat transferred to the water. Submersible pumps are cooled by YOUR tank water!

Yeah definitely external, just try and find a quiet pump like the Panworld
|

there also isnt many submersible pumps with the head pressure rated high enough to be a return pump. i say go with the external, makes for a neater set up as well as you can have more space in your for things like a phosphate reactors, refugium, etc..
