closed loop

Hi< I have put together a closed loop system for my 55 gal corner tank using the one on Mel's reef as a guide, I used the same Mag 7 pump, 3/4 PVC, and the wave maker. I fired it up yesterday and water flow literally only shoots out about 8 inches from the end of the PVC in the tank, it seems apparent that I should have gone with a Mag 12 but why is the flow so low and how is Mel getting away with a Mag 7?

Well, for one Melev used this setup on a 29 gallon tank, you may want to up your circulation with a bigger pump for a 55 gallon. Dont forget to count in your headloss as Staticx said, Melev had the pump on his tank stand, reducing his head loss. If you have your pump in your stand, you will have a greater head loss.
