Albino Tang - Rarity?

has anyone heard of this fish? I was at Coral Oasis today and he had what was called an albino tang.

It looks like a Kole tang, except it's yellow and the belly is white. it also had pretty huge lips. I had my camera so I took some pics, he just got it today so it was kinda hiding. i'll post em up in a bit when i figure everything out.

I am guessing he is pale from stress because he just got it. It is most likely more yellow or something, just while from stress.

I would have to agree since Kole tangs do come both light and dark...pics would be of help

and it wasn't tiny either. i'm a bad judge of size but i'd say at least 6" and that's a conservative figure. looking at a tape measure it might've been 8"

didn't really ask the price. it just arrived so they didn't have a price up yet.

i was thinking it looked like a mimic tang as well, but there are thin lines across the body. the pics i've seen of the mimic tang, looks like a solid yellow.

LOL, Gabe, albino is just a lack of melanin, doesn't necessarily have to be white all the time. Lots of animals are considered albinos, but have yellow hues.

Can you find out where the fish originated from. It actually looks like an albino Atlantic Blue, pretty trippy.

I bought one for $14.99 @ Rainbow Pets. They were labeled as Phillipine Tang?

Sam, there are quite a few tangs out there that are yellow that are very similiar to that fish in shape. Usually from 1" to 3", then they start changing to darker colors. The fact that this fish is 6"+ and has the yellow coloration, seems like something special.

Post pics of yours anyway if possible.

And when whoever placed the order for it to be transshipped they probably checked the "Assorted Tang" box.

Yup that is true there are different series of albino alles
siamese cats are a type of albino meow !

OMG for the life of me I cant get a shot of him...He is ~5''+ as well. Yellow with that baby blue underline in the eye like in the 2nd pic. Never seen them before this large and yellow.

I saw three similar tangs today (7"-8"), but they had random brown blotches on them (one more than the other two), and they were marked as "Hybrid Tang." Price was ridiculous...

Hi

I bought a tang exactly the same shap as that a year ago, it was white yellow and black and sold as a Hybrid.

I notice a red mark on it in the shop, but, didn'rt worry about it, since I thought it had just been in a fight and would heal.

Unfortunately the mark grew into something like an ulcer.

In the end a friend gave me some antibiotics to use.

Thank fully they worked.

However, the really strange thing was during trreatment, he tuned brown all over, and looked something like an adult Chevron in colour, but not in shape.

The shop took the fish back as it certaily wasn't a hybrid.

I've two 'yellow' / scopas hybrids and the marking seem to move. I do wonder whether they are not really hybrids but soem kind of skin infection. Occassionally you see a coloured human with skin problems and white patchs (don't mean to offend anybody).

Hope this helps is some way.

20$ says Ben (owner of CO) will charge some ridiculous price for it. somewhere in the 350-400 range.

gtrestoration I think you are right on the assorted tang check. When I transhiped fish into tidesntails Robert and I would always check that box because it was cheep and you never know what you are going to get, could be a yellow or even a pullani.
