How much flow is to much?

When I bought this 65 gal tank used from a guy it came with a ETSS sump and a ETSS reef devil skimmer a mag drive 18 pump which was teed to the skimmer. When I set it up I bought a seperate pump for the skimmer a rio that does about 600 gph and used the mag drive solely for the return which has a sea swhirl on it and I put a koralia 3 power head in (825gph) and a seio 620 in I know that I am not getting the 1800 gph from the sump but would assume that it is about a 1000 plus 825 form koralia and 620 from seio so that should be about 2400 gph turn over in the tank. So the tank should be turning over abot 36 times an hour correct? TOO MUCH???

My SPS tank with a deep sand bed has 54x turnover, its all a matter of where its pointed.

I'm not sure exactly, but here's an opinion. I think the 1000 gph estimate for the mag 18 is probably about accurate, you might even be getting a little more than that. Assuming the other two numbers are right, (which i believe they are) your estimate seems about right. It's not too much flow in my opinion. I have a 55 gallon with a koralia 3, 1 maxi 1200 and two maxi 600's on a wave controller. And I am still thinking of modding the 1200. My return is a rio 2500. It just depends on what corals you are keeping and their placement in relation to your flow patterns. IME

once I get ready to start stocking then all the flow will be adjusted to the correct spots so I do not blow anything to pieces.
