Skin for DIY stand

Hi folks,

I'm building a stand for a 125. I'm looking for something economical to skin it with (no structural concerns) that would have a nice flat smooth surface. We're trying to match some furnature and I'm *not* looking for the woodgrain look. I was thinking about MDF, but I hear it's not great around water. Any other thoughts?

Just go with some 1/4 or 3/8 inch plywood. You can use a Birch or Oak grain if you are going to stain it. If not just go with some 1/4 inch AC ply and paint it. I would not use particle board or MDF, it does not stand up well to getting wet.

1/4" ply with formica will give it that smooth modern look.

Go to Home Depot and they have sander ply. It is very smooth and paint grade. You can also use birch but do NOT use oak if you want no grain.

click my red house. If I did it again I wouldn't use the pine as the skin, it doesn't stain like I thought it would. I actually wanted more of a grainy look. I might suggest getting red oak. It looks pretty cool. All the sections can be purchased at HD or lowes.
