To catch a predator
over the past couple of months i found numerous what im assuming are just some sort of predator rock crabs, nasty little hairy buggers with big claws. Ive been hunting them down with a flashlight and a wooden dowel with a kitchen knife taped to the end...lol i look like a caveman chucking spears around. But anyways i thought i got all of them out as I haven't lost a snail in quite some time...which is still true (from what i can tell,) but instead im finding scarlet hermit legs scattered around the tank.
And then I saw him, the darn crab is a monster. Now ive seen him in the past, but not a whole glimpse of it. The other day i managed to spear a big crab and thought it was my moby dick but obviously i was wrong. the body on this guy is easily a half dollar, but ive never seen it out of the rock off of the sand day or night, his positioning is always in a way that i cant reach or spear around the rockwork. Im at a loss on how to catch this massive ghostly killer, any thoughts? wow thats alot of typing for a simple question lol...apologies in advance!

try boiling some water and use a turkey baster and blast him with it and see if he will come out, worked for me with on of my rogue crabs

make a crab trap. you can probably fabricate something off of a few designs on line. you're going about it in the wrong way, fast moovement are what crabs are used to defending themselves with. they may be fast, and good hiders, but they are stupid when it comes to getting out of strange contraptions. they usually hunt at night and it would be best if the fish did not eat the bait(I would leave a piece of uncooked chicken) that you leave him because they might get trapped with him.

thanks, ill try both ways. i knew i was going about it wrong, but it was the only excuse i had to make a spear and use it

Put some bait in a slanted glass so he can crawl in but not get out. Night time is best. Check out this guy I caught.
Good luck! Give it to a fish store, dont kill em
