what is this?

I originally bought this frag for cheap money thinking it was a green tree coral like the one i had lost in a crash a while back.

Now I don't think that is what it is . It has the general shape but the color is not the same . Under the actinics my old one would glow in a beautiful green color while this one does not look nearly as good.

so what is it?

Almost certainly a Sinularia sp., just like green tree coral.

It's pretty useless to ask for a name! Systematics of most soft corals is a mess...

If you want to replace your green tree coral, I'd suggest you find someone near you who has what you want (or an online retailer who doesn't photoshop their pictures).
