I have honestly found the best advice to come from forums like these because if someone says something ridiculous, then there are "a billion" people on here to jump on it, and set it all straight. Of course there are varying opinions as well, and one thing may work for one person, and be completely detrimental to another's tank (which really isn't that often).
It depends on where you live, who works at the store and the times you go there. Big Al's is good but I also go to J & L aquatics and a small place called Paul's (Paul has cheaper equiptment and has been doing it since 1970's). Where do you live adrian52492? I'm sure the members here can stear you into some awsome places.

PS Myka where in BC are you?

Where did anyone mention undergravel filters? They ARE a horrible piece of cr@p.
The people who use these are proud of the fact that they CAN use them. It takes an expert. The undergravel filters are 20 year old technology.
Excuse me! "useless piece of crap!" Care to elaborate on that?
