good idea with the construction paper. Painting seems like a pita on a full tank....

I got some solid-color gift wrapping paper from Walmart for $2.50 and taped it to the back of my tank for a background.
A lot easier than painting and looks just the same. |

Painting looks better than any taped on background... JMO
Even when I do use a background (like some on FW tanks) it looks much better when sealed to the back with something and all the airbubbles are removed. Just taping it on looks the worst.. |

I hate doing anything permanent to my tanks...so far I've been taping the run-ofthe-mill backgrounds on the back of my tanks...
...by the time the tank is full of stuff, you don't see much of the background anymore anyway... All I can say is that ANY background looks better than none...

Use some petroleum jelly (vasaline) I don't know how it is done exactly never done it but I think you just put some on the background press it against the tank then smooth it out with a credit card.

Get some 5% static limo tint, apply it with water (soapy works better, gotta be careful) and squegee out the the water. If that isn't dark enough you can then put cardboard or whatever you want behind that. The problem with just sitting something behind is that it shadows.
