Brown algae on new setup
Hello,
I just setup a 46Gal tank about 2 weeks ago. It is 75lbs of sand (10lbs of live), 15lbs of live rock and about 100lbs of base rock. I have 4x96W power compact bulbs on it (1 Actinic 12hours per day, 3 10k on for 8hours.) In the last 3 days I have noticed a brown aglae growing on the surfaces of rocks and sand. Can anyone tell me what this is, and what I can do about it? Thanks! ED7 ![]() ![]() |

I agree. Those are diatoms, are common in new tanks, and will go away one day almost as quickly as they appeared.

Did you set up your tank with tap water or ro/di ? Diatoms will come and go.I have a small problem with them now and my tank is 3 months old...
