Software for Aquarium Maintenance

I've built a web-based application for logging all of my aquarium maintenance activity, such as water tests and various maintenance tasks such as water changes, filter element replacement, additives, etc. I've also built in a way to indicate the frequency of tests/tasks so I get a reminder when they are due and a todo list. It greatly helps me keep track of what I need to do, and helps me to look back on what I've done and when. It also keeps track of my critters... when I've added them, any notes along the way... others can view my page to see what I have (and also what I'm planning to have), along with pictures (stock or custom) and links.

Can anyone comment if there is already software out there to do this sort of thing? It would be nice if such a thing could be built into a site like reefcentral.com.

One of the new online reef forums has something like that built in. You will have to find it yourself due to the Reef Central link policies.

FWIW, I keep the info locally. I don't trust that any site will be here in 1 year (or 10) when I want to refer to my info.

If you do a google search there are various programs/spreadsheets/etc out there, none of them are very popular.

Who do those RC staff people think they are; keeping people from posting other site URL's. Oh, nevermind.

Here's a freebie site that may help AquaLog with a downloadable logging program. I'm sure a website developer can probably find others with a little refined searching.

Can you post a link where we can see it?

I'll send a link by private message. I don't have any security on it, and I don't want to open it up to everyone. I'm a little embarrassed too since it shows all the mistakes I've made through the last year.

If anyone wants a look-see, you can private message me.

Heh, its my own private site... But when I say "no security", I mean anyone can go in and add, change, or delete log entries. And while I trust nearly everyone on here, someone with less scruples doing a google search a week or two from now may not be so nice.

No, I'm using IIS in XP. I know how to add security, I've just not had a need since I'm the only one who knows about it. I do keep things backed up.

I don't know about the rest of the staff but I don't like anybody. Also, I won't trust me with your creation Fermat if I was you.

Seriously, if you think it is good then talk to Skipper. He may have a way of working it into a Reefkeeping Magazine article where you could provide a safe link from RC.

I wasn't trying to market my tool... I simply commented that I created one, and someone asked to see it.

Perhaps the best idea would be to create some screen shots, then I could freely post the link to it if anyone wanted to see it.

Just want to through my 2 cents in here, I took a look at the Aqualog and it really is a glorified xcel spread sheet. It will work, but I think with Google's free services you can create your own spread sheets online and work from anywhere. The only thing you dont get is the html output, but thats fine for my app.

Just wanted to let others know how Im keepin tabs on my tank.

Shane

Google calendar will work but I do not think you can chart with it. The spread sheet allows you to graph coordinates and that could reveal somethings you just can not see in a text log very easy

I think some screenshots are in order here I can understand your hesitation on opening this to people due to your lack of security.
But it would be great if somehow you released the code

You mean the spread sheet would help me figure out where the LOST island is, what that big black monster thing is, AND what the sg of the water by the island is?

why, it sounds too good to be true
sorry can't resist

I think Reefcon LT will do all of that.

I use the old reefcon 2000 to keep track of my water parameters.

It's a free program. http://www.infinitysoft.net/ReefCon/

take a look and see if yours is like it.

I think that violates the RC User Agreement, especially if you post a pic.

Does that mean I need to create one in Access to get any respect?

Hey, the original Sim City was just a jazzed up Excel spreadsheet and look how that took off.

See it or sell it I think both violate the UA.

Be glad I never figured out how to ban someone.
