Different looking FOWLR tank ideas...

I recently saw a FOWLR tank (not a true FOWLR I guess) that had just a crazy amount of growth on the LR...Everything from mushrooms to nuisance algae. It looked really nice and gave the FOWLR so much life! He allowed nuisance algae to grow and had planted a few macro algaes too. Im looking for more ideas like that. Do you have an pics of your FOWLR that is different than the usual pristine LR and sand?

Thanks!

I keep different zoos and mushrooms in mine. I even have a colt coral. I would take pictures but I am in the middle of drilling holes in all my rock to make pillars. Almost done and I should have pics by the end of the week.

I actually have a ton of aiptasia in my tank. I also have some mushrooms and other things that I don't know what they are. I also have some green grassy stuff that was on the rock when I got it. It has done pretty well even though the triggers pick at it. Someday I'll post a couple pics of my tank.

So would mushrooms and zoos be safe in a tank with triggers?

Mine are, was until sponges got a hold of the shrooms. But the trigger never touches anything.

Wish my camera took better pics so I could show you a green hair infested tank. I have tried every remedy the good people here have recommended and NOTHING worked. So I guess I will live with it.

The algae waving in the flow does give the tank a more " alive" look for sure and considering I have an Emperor Angel, that looks at corals as his personal buffet, the hair algae and button polyps are my only non-fish inhabitants. Just because many in this hobby want the pristine look it doesn't mean some of us fowlr's can't bend the rules with a little rebel algae.

I know this is an old post - do a search for EdKruzel's fowlr - a few years back now, but it is on here somewhere...... that was a pretty cool looking FOWLR.

I have a 125 gallon FOWLR with 10 different species of mushrooms and some Ricordia. I also have a 1 foot leather toadstool leather coral. The only problem is that my 8 inch imperator is picking at them when he gets hungry and grouchy. In order to save the coral I may have to take them out and put them in another tank. So it is always a risk when you try to mix soft corals with large angels and triggers.

urchins, gorgonia, big hermit crabs or even bottles are some other things you can put in a fowlr to add movement and color

I also have a bit of a different FOWLR tank in that I have a BTA with two clownfish. No problem with the other tankmates...except sometimes my semivars will steal food from the BTA. All tankmates doing fine with each other.

Guys these tanks sound awesome, but where are the pics?
Also can someone post a link to the Edkruzel Fowl thread? I can't seem to find it.

I'm sorry I don't have many pics to post right now; I'm in the middle of a move and my PC is packed away. I'm operating from my laptop and this is the only pic I have of that old tank.

It was a majority of macro's and true marine plants with a few nuisance algae that filled in the gaps. Planted marine systems are very healthy and supply a world of small creatures most reefers only see in their fuges.

we're in the middle of a move...we just set up (or at least its been running for a while, now it's being inhabited) our custom 215g FOWLR...stock thus far (moved from varius locals in the house ) 300lbs LR...several Kenya tree (likely soon to be Emporer snacks), mushrooms, leathers...Porcupine puffer, foxface, sailfin tang, powder brown tang, leopard wrasse, longfin bannerfish, emporer angel (juvenile), bi-color angel.

So far as the fish go, the puffer, foxface, sailfin, poder brown, and wrasse have been a happy family for quite some time now. The emporer (Arthur) and the bi-color (Sissy) have been shacked up in my reef for too long...sigh...it no longer resmbles a reef...I know, it's my own darn fault...The Heni had been obtained as a group, but apparently he was the "strong" that survived...

Left in the 75g is approx 100lbs LR with a huge leather that our orange/pink skunk clown pair have taken to inhabiting...tons of shrooms...some zoo's...sebae anenome...sand sifting stars/snails...pink tail trigger...the trigger will be moving to the 215g.

left in my reef 56g is...well...we'll save that for the reef forum...I'll see what I can do about some pics for you!
