Live Rock with algae

Got some free live rock that is nearly black with algae except on one side where im asssuming it was sitting on the sand. IS this rock ok to use? if so what should i do with it?

would snails and hermits get rid of the algae? Can it be purple one day?

No guarantee a cleanup crew will munch on it. Just scrub it with an old toothbrush. And yeah, it will become purple/pink one day............if plastic, glass panels and snail shells can cover with purple coralline, then rock is no question......

If you add it without cleaning the alae would spread around, clean it first
