pescadero- It is a RubberMaid, brand tub. Menards calls it a 50 gallon stock tank. The SKU# is: 189-1360. They had them on them on display indoors by the lumbar section before you go outside to the garden section. That is at the Crystal Lake Menards. Others may be different. I did see them there 2-3 weeks ago. Also, I had to order mine were you get building supplies. Got the ticket and went around back to pick it up. Good luck with your build and thanks for the compliment.

Wrassemeister and 5h3rW1N- Thanks guys! I wanted something the girlie could be proud of.

reefhead165- Maybe. I don't run skimmers but she does want quite a few fish so I might pick up a used PM or something.

Sullyman- Thank you Bob. I'll have to get you over one of these days to check everything out. maybe I can get you to help with my system since I helped with yours. JJ

aiko670 and badazztealcobra- You guys just love teasing me! You know my motto: If the ocean doesn't need it, then neither do I.

GrandeGixxer- You like that? Its a special order!

Thanks. When I went to my local Menards a few weeks ago I specifically asked them to search for a Rubbermaid stock tank, but they still couldn't find it in the computer system. Maybe they only stock them in the more rural store locations. Now that I have an SKU to give them, maybe I'll have better luck.

Where did you get all of the black PVC though, or is it painted?

I would have had to do some tile work around the top though.

I do really like it though. I might have to just accidentally start building one in the garage. When the wife asks what it is, I will just avoid the question like the plague. When it is all said and done, how could she say no?

This is black ABS pipe from Menards. If I were to redo it, I would order black "PVC" from www.savko.com . ABS seems to be not as dense of a pipe as PVC. It seems to be a little noisier than a similar setup with PVC.

Looking back, going over the top of the tub would be better. Tile would add a nice look. I thought about it, but there was no other tile in the lookdown room. There was a whole bunch of wood stained with Ipswich Pine though!

Thank you!

I know a little about surges.... I prefer the Carlson.

I'm sure Rod can tweak a Bornman like there's no tomorrow.

I wouldn't see a problem with either source giving info. about surges out.

its my understanding with the carlson surge you need a larger pump but with the bornman you could use a maxi jet if you wanted to:-)

Thats probably why I favor the Carlson. I run my return pumps to the surges so I have been concerned with how to get more flow into a surge, not less. I have had them with lower flow(don't need 1/2 the vents that mine have), but love the bigger surges. It gives me a chance to get the intensity of the Bornman with less of a "burp" in the beginning and less noise. Either way, a surge is a surge and nothing can do what a surge can for that price. IMO.

I also love the fact that I don't use ANY powerheads anymore. No extra power strips for the tons of powerheads, no pumps to clean or replace.

lil squid- What size is your surge pipe now? I'm able to do a 2" Carlson with no burp. I'll be trying (2) 3" soon.

Which air trap? In the sump or for the surge?

You're more than welcome to come and check EVERYthing out.
