12 gal JBJ NanoCube DIY Protein Skimmer?

I am looking to possibly build a protein skimmer for my 12 gal nano. I am wanting to place in the middle compartment in the back so it is not seen. All the skimmers I have seen on the market are made to go into the tank unless an external sump is being used. Has anyone found one or made one that they could share their opinions, ones they found on the market that I haven't seen yet or their plans of their DIY one?

Thank you

I'm curious too (for my 12G aquapod).

I have a fission, but that requires the canopy to come off. I have seen people talking about a sapphire skimmer, but I can't find any one that sells it...

I'd be interested in a DIY project.

There's a huge DIY thread over on nano-reef. It's a few years old, uses a manifold type setup. I built it, lots of work for marginal results. But the folks over on that forum have put a lot of energy into answering this question. Worth checking out if you're into DIY. Or hold out for the sapphire. Our LFS has one in a NC24 that seems to do a real good job. I haven't found them on the shelf though. chuck
