Well I added another fish a very very large Clown tang! He is big and beautiful! He came in great shape from shipping. I added him to the tank and within 5 mins was eating algae off my starboard. Pics to come of him and the PB tang and the Achilles.

wow, nice... any aggression from the existing tankmates toward the new tangs? i'd like to do a achilles or a powderblue myself but i'm worried about ich.

How do you keep your fish so ich free?

I little with the yellows to wards the Achilles. the yellows would not let him swim anywhere besides one corner of the tank that lasted a few days and now he swims all over the tank.

I have a total of 8 tangs and 5 Angels.

My tank stays ich free because of good water conditions lots of flow running bare bottom. Ozone in the tank and I run UV. Diet is also a major factor to fighting off parasites.

Great tank. After reading this last post HD, I am thinking about pulling out some of my sand in my heavily stocked 135, especially in the sides and corners. I was trying to add some more power heads just last night to rid of dead spots, but I am moving 3100 gallons an hour, in my tank ( I believe in mass movement)...there shouldn't be many low flow spots...

Okay, so you're the 3rd Canadian I've seen with a healthy H.magnifica...what is going on up there??? Are you guys hoarding them all to yourselves???

Just out of curiousity, does your anemone have a strong feeding response? Meaning, does it rapidly close up around the food to engulf it, or does it close only near the food and slowly bring it towards its mouth?

Tank looks great! I'm very surprised the Clown Trigger hasnt made a snack of the cleaner shrimp. All of the ones I've seen would.....you must keep him very well fed...

Nick

I love the new fish!
I just wanted to know what you do to keep the fish healthy and parasite free...do you quarentine new arrivals? If so how long? DO you use a UV steralizer or anything?

Thanks,

Why are you having problems in the tank like algae blooms etc? How much sand do you have in the tank? I'm a big believer in flow even if this is not a SPS tank. Flow plays a major factor in the health of fish and the tank in general!

What types of fish do you have in the tank?

Thanks,

LOL I guess we may have got all the good ones! I was shocked when I saw this one at my LFS. He was the only one with a very tight mouth a good sign in the health of any anemone! I took a chance and well I now have to slow down on the feedings he is growing to fast! When I feed him he slowly brings the food to his mouth and open his mouth. Yes you and many others are shocked when seeing a clown trigger with cleaners and snails in the same tank. All my fish are well feed.

Where are the other pics or threads of the other Canadians with healthy Mags?

Thanks,

No I do not quarantine any new fish at home. My LFS has all his tanks with meds he runs a massive ozone generators on all his tanks. The supplier of his fish is very clean I have seen pics of the warehouse very impressive.

I run a Ozone generator on my tank and a 40w UV. I run a very slow GPH through the UV. This combination with high turnover in the tank pristine water conditions huge skimmer and water changes and a good LFS with awesome fish is why I can run such a great tank IMO.

hd, i'd like to ask you a couple questions.

What would you recommend to control ich? 40 watt UV or a ozone.

I'm not to familar with ozones. I hear that they work wonders. I know you can hook them up to some skimmers. can you give me as much info on ozones as possible.

IMO UV and ozone works better with a BB tank with lots of flow. I say this because the ick parasite falls off the host during it's cycle. With a sand bed the parasite has a chance to grab or hide in the bed to begin its cycle again. With lots of flow in the tank and running bb the parasite has no chance and is swept up by the current and removed to the sump where it comes in contact with your ozone or pass through the UV.

UV and Ozone both have there pros and cons. It would be best to use both together to help combat parasites. Do a search here on RC on "Ozone". Lots of good info here on both subjects.

Not to sure if something catches me eye at my LFS. I'm leaning on adding 2 flame Angels to the tank but we will see.

Full tank shots should have some up by the end of the weekend. I have more mudding and tapping on the drywall to do fun fun fun.
