red hair algae

what can i do? i have since cut back on feeding and light....as of now i have cheo macro in my refuge.....i am using synthetic salt with glacier water from the machine at publix i even called glacier to check on that particular machines maintenance records and seemingly maintained.

I would still check the water with a tds meter. I have found high tds readings with those machines in the past and other with very low readings...its kinda of a hit and miss thing. Turbo snails are pretty good at mowing down the algae. I keep some in my refuge for the same problem...the red hair only grown in my refuge.

It may be cyanobacteria, not algae. If it tends to die back at night and grow during the day, and/or if it has bubbles in it, that's what it is.

It is cured by turning lights out for three days, once a month for several months; also by having a good skimmer and keeping sunbeams away from your tank.

Salinity 1.024-6; alkalinity 8.3-9.3 on KH scale; calcium 420; magnesium 1300, temp 78-80, nitrate .2. Ammonia 0. No filters: lps tank. Alk and cal won't rise if mg is low.

Current Tank Info: 105g AquaVim wedge, chromis, royal gramma basslet, tailspot blenny, ocellaris clown, yellow watchman, chestnut turbo snails, bristleworms, couple of hermits.

Either way, add more flow. What the GPH on your return pump and what the GPH on the powerheads your running?
