Post Lighting for my New 210g Setup

Hey, I've been looking at T5 and MH lighting and want to know about some things...

1. Does T5 lighting have that same "shimmer" effect, as MH's?

2. What is the difference between getting a T5 VHO setup and MH setup in relevence to coral?

Two Pendant Setup
(i would get the two pendant setup along with one more (total of 3)

Or should I go with two 36" Icecap VHO T5 Retrofit Kits?
IceCap 36" VHO Retrofit

What I am looking for is a good setup for LPS and SPS coral, along with that nice lighting (shimmery effect, etc.)

What do you think?

Another option for MH Lighting could be IceCap MH Pendants . I would also get this in a two pendant combo, along with buying one more pendant (total of 3)...

anyone have any opinions?

-thanks

T5 will not have the same shimmer effect.

Although I love my T5's they are more efficient at lighting smaller, shallower tanks (55's, 75's).

With a 210 I would not even hesitate over this question and go with MH's, the wattage depending on the depth of the tank.

with a 210 i would go with MH. Usually any tank deeper then 18" probaly should have MH. Not saying that T5's wont work because they can, but its better with MH IMO.

okay thanks for the advice...anyone have any specific brands that they would recommend.. I've decided to go with 3 400 watt pendant setups, along with 4 72 T5 bulbs.... I think i'll go with sunlight supply or IceCap for the metal halides..not sure about the T5 lighting though...I'm going to look into it.

well the T5 bulbs wont work out...havent found any 72" T5 lighting and I dont want to go with 4 36" ones...Sooo I'm going with the Metal Halides, and an IceCap 72" VHO Retrofit kit w/2 bulbs (160 watts each bulb)

this gives me a total wattage of 1520 (about 7.25 watts per gallon)

does anyone think this will work?

Halides with a pair of VHO's are just what the is needed for your setup, VHO's for actinics. T5's are great with smaller tanks, and their full spectrum bulbs are great, but T12 VHO's still have them beat for actinics anyhow.

I just changed to an Outer orbit 3x250MH's, 8x 39watt T5's and 24 moonlights and I'm very happy. I used to run 3x175's only but heat was an issue as I had them on 10-12 hours a day. I have a 180 which is a few inches shorter than your 210 so 400's might work better.

That's a pretty nice tank for someone in high school.
