Need some 150w DE bulb suggestions for sps

I have been running faithfully the last two years the 14k Phoenix bulbs. I am coming to notice even though the corals grow nicely and the color of the tank looks great, the corals are a drab color lately. Tank tests fine and everything is healthy I just think the color could be better. The bulbs currently are only three months old so I know they have plenty of life in them....

When the phoenix's turn on they hit a point when they are heating to temp which is about before they turn blue. The coral colors look incredible. Once they go full burn to bluish the corals look drab or pastel looking. I would think that midway into the bulb heating up to color leans against a 10k bulb.... Maybe a 10k is the way to go?

Suggestions? Ideas?

Thanks
Spankey

Yeah I am not at all saying the phoenix isn't a producer, I just wonder if there is a better coloring bulb out there. I mean when I get corals that are browned out or such, I know the phoenix's will bring out the true color's. I just wish that or wonder if there is a much better bulb out there?????

I just fear the growth issues I will get if I get 10k's....I will have to have the chain saw on hand for coral over growth with 10k's...LOL Maybe the phoenix's is the way to go and stick with. I mean for $54 a bulb that isn't bad I guess.......

I don't intend on running actinic supliments as I currently run Blueline 50/50 96w pc's in the fixture now with the phoenix's. The tank is super bright with this combination and maybe I guess its just they way it is....

Thanks
Spankey

Hi Sal. I think your lighting has a great color to it. I would not change a thing. Your colors look great.

I run 3, 400W 10K XM's with actinic supp. and your color still looks much better. I know a lot of the big time reefers run the same bulbs as I do, but I don't see why to be honest.

Don't fix what's not broke. As I said before, you are doing something right .

Have a great New Year, hope to see ya soon!

-Brian

Happy New year to you to Brother! I have to sit back and agree. I just think when I see other tanks lit with different light, I wonder if my tank could look like that. I know no two tanks are the same but I guess when it comes down to it a large portion of success is good lighting.

Its not broke so I guess I have no real needs to fix it....

I have had great experience with the radium 20k bulb. It's not blue like all the other 20k bulbs.

As long as the corals are growing and healthy why change?? Maybe get yourself some sunglasses that make your reef look pretty to you

If you're running actinics in combination, check out the Iwasaki 50k bulb.

I run the 50k Iwaskai as of now and use to run the Phoenix 14k. I really can't tell much difference in color. If I'm not mistaken the Phoenix has more par and cost alot less. I use no supplement actinic light also.
