Question ATO + AutoFeed?

I travel quite often so I have an idea of using an ATO system as an Autofeeding system.

Right now I have a float switch ATO (melev's) w/ a 5G jug of RO water. If I mix a little bit of frozen phytoplankton into the jug, whenever the tank is topped off, the ATO will add a little bit of phytoplankton into the tank and feed the livestocks.

How does this sound?

You'd have to have something stirring the tank, otherwise it would all settle on the bottom. Plus I'd be worried about it rotting. I would test it while you're in town if you try it though.

A few problems. The phyto will die in fresh water. It will also settle out. And lastly it won't feed much in the tank anyway. If you are set on dosing phyto however, eheim makes a "liquidoser" that would work for you.

Well im just tryin to figure out an efficient way to autofeed since im going out of town almost every weekend. Any other suggestions?

I have a solution for the settling problem. I will have another small pump in the FW container which will run on the float switch too.

But I can understand the dying and rotting in FW issue... hmm Any alternative kind of food?

LobsterOfJustice, thanks! I will look into that

I wouldn't worry too much about leaving the tank w/o food over weekends. I'd just feed the tank on Fri before leaving and then Sun or Mon when I return.

I'm on the road for long durations at a time and the only thing I do is have someone come over every two to three days to add a little food and check on my topoff reservoir. I have, however, thought about buying an autofeeder, but it's not high on my priority list of things to buy yet.
