why do people use vodka and vinerger?

I been haring of people dosing vodka and vinerger but didnt read anything about why or what it does. can someone please explain. Thank you.

The short version is vodka and vinegar are carbon sources for bacteria to feed on. This bacteria needs nitrates and phosphates to grow so it consumes those two.

It helps keep nutrients under control.

Before anyone goes off and dumps a shot in your tank you better read and then read some more. This can go horribly wrong.

Hobby Experience: 9200ish gallons, 26 skimmers, and a handful of Kent Scrapers.

Vortech Powered 600G SPS Tank w/ 100gal frag tank & 100g Sump. RK2-RK10 Skimmer. ReefAngel. Radium 20k.

Cool thanks. I dont think ill be using any myself i just got a 20gl. reef tank and i been doing a 5%water change once a week. Plus i set up a little algae scrubber.
